Why Fans Matter Here

Ceiling Fans Are Not Optional in Clearwater

Clearwater averages a high above 80 degrees from April through October. The humidity regularly pushes the heat index past 100. Air conditioning handles the heavy lifting, but running the AC at 72 all day in a Florida summer is expensive — and Duke Energy rates keep climbing.

A ceiling fan lets you raise the thermostat by four to five degrees without feeling any warmer. The moving air creates a wind-chill effect on your skin that makes 77 feel like 72. Multiply that across every room with a fan and the energy savings are substantial. The Department of Energy estimates fans can reduce cooling costs by up to 40 percent when used alongside AC.

But a fan only works if it is installed correctly. A fan that wobbles because the box is not rated for the load, or one that hums because the wiring was not done right, or one that hangs too close to the ceiling to move enough air — that is worse than no fan at all. Getting the installation right matters more than the fan brand you pick.

What We Do

Ceiling Fan Services We Provide

  • New fan installation — wiring a circuit to a ceiling location that has never had a fan or fixture
  • Fan-rated box installation — replacing a standard light fixture box with a box rated for the weight and vibration of a fan
  • Existing fan replacement — removing the old fan and installing a new one on the same wiring and box
  • Light-to-fan conversion — replacing a flush-mount light fixture with a ceiling fan on a new fan-rated box
  • Dual-switch wiring — separate wall switches for the fan motor and the light kit so you control each independently
  • Remote control installation — adding a wireless remote receiver inside the fan canopy for multi-speed and light control without a wall switch
  • Smart fan control — Wi-Fi-connected wall switches or canopy modules for app and voice control of fan speed and lighting
  • Outdoor and damp-rated fans — wet- and damp-rated fans for covered patios, lanais, and screened porches
  • Vaulted ceiling mounting — angled brackets and extended downrods for sloped, cathedral, and tray ceilings
  • Multi-fan installations — two or more fans in large living rooms, great rooms, and open-plan spaces

What Makes Fan Installation Different in Clearwater

Every region has its own set of challenges for ceiling fans. In Clearwater and Pinellas County, these are the factors that affect your installation:

Humidity and Outdoor Use

Clearwater's humidity corrodes fan motors and blades over time, especially in non-conditioned spaces like lanais and screened porches. Outdoor installations require a fan rated for damp or wet locations depending on whether the area is covered or exposed. Standard indoor fans installed in these locations will develop motor problems and blade warping within a couple of years.

Hurricane Straps and Secure Mounting

Tropical storms and hurricanes create pressure differentials that shake entire ceiling assemblies. We install fans with a secure mounting system — fan-rated brace bars between joists, lag-bolted pancake boxes, or UL-listed mounting brackets — so the fan stays put regardless of what the weather does.

Ceiling Construction

Clearwater homes have a wide range of ceiling types. Older ranch homes from the 1960s and 70s have flat drywall ceilings with accessible attic space above — easy for fan installation. Newer homes often have vaulted ceilings, tray ceilings, or concrete second floors that require different mounting hardware and more involved wiring. We handle every type.

Covered Patio Without a Fan?

A damp-rated outdoor fan turns a hot Clearwater lanai into usable space from April through October. We install them in a few hours.

How It Works

Our Fan Installation Process

1

Evaluate the Location

We check the ceiling construction, confirm attic access or joist spacing, measure the room for the correct fan size, and verify that the existing wiring can support the fan or determine what new wiring is needed.

2

Install the Box and Wiring

If a fan-rated box is not already in place, we install one — either a brace bar between joists or a pancake box lag-bolted directly to a joist. If the location has no wiring, we run a new circuit from the panel and install switch wiring at the wall.

3

Mount and Wire the Fan

We assemble the fan, connect the wiring, mount it to the box, and install the blades and light kit. Every connection is made with wire nuts and secured with strain relief. The canopy fits flush to the ceiling with no gaps.

4

Test and Balance

We run the fan on every speed, check for wobble, verify the light kit works, and test the remote or smart control if one was installed. If the fan wobbles, we balance it on the spot. You should not hear or feel any vibration.

FAQ

Ceiling Fan Questions From Clearwater Homeowners

  • In most cases, yes. The existing wiring that powers the light can usually power a fan. But the electrical box must be replaced with a fan-rated box that can support the weight and vibration. A standard light fixture box is rated for 50 pounds static load — a spinning fan creates dynamic forces that can pull a non-rated box out of the ceiling. We swap the box, verify the wiring, and mount the fan safely.

  • Fan blade span should match the room. Rooms under 75 square feet need a 29- to 36-inch fan. Rooms from 75 to 144 square feet work well with 36 to 42 inches. Rooms from 144 to 225 square feet need 44 to 50 inches. Larger rooms — and most Clearwater living rooms and master bedrooms — need 52 inches or larger, or two fans. We measure the room and confirm the right size before installation.

  • Replacing an existing fan on an existing fan-rated box typically costs $100 to $200 for labor. A new installation where we need to run wiring and install a fan-rated box runs $250 to $500 depending on ceiling access and wiring distance. Call (727) 558-4636 and describe your situation for a specific number.

  • Yes. Vaulted and sloped ceilings require an angled mounting bracket and a longer downrod to keep the blades at the correct height. We install fans on cathedral ceilings, tray ceilings, and exposed-beam ceilings throughout Clearwater homes. The fan must hang at least seven feet above the floor per NEC code, so ceiling height determines the downrod length.

  • For most rooms, yes. A remote eliminates the need for a wall switch and lets you control fan speed and light from the couch or bed. Smart fan controls — like Bond, Broadlink, or manufacturer apps — add scheduling, voice control through Alexa or Google, and integration with your smart home system. We install both options and can retrofit remotes onto most existing fans.
