Frequently Asked Electrical Questions

Answers to the questions Clearwater homeowners and business owners ask us most often. If your question isn't here, call (727) 558-4636 and ask directly — a real electrician answers the phone.

  • It depends on the job. A simple outlet install is a couple hundred dollars. A panel upgrade is a bigger investment. We give you a written price before starting any work — no hourly billing, no surprise charges. Call (727) 558-4636 and describe the job for a quick phone estimate.

  • Florida requires permits for most electrical work beyond basic fixture swaps. Panel upgrades, new circuits, rewiring, EV charger installations, and generator hookups all need a permit from the City of Clearwater or Pinellas County. We handle the permit application, fees, and inspection scheduling.

  • Our target is on-site within 60 minutes for emergencies across Clearwater and most of Pinellas County. We dispatch directly from our Clearwater location — no routing through a call center in another state. Call (727) 558-4636 any time, day or night.

  • Yes. Our emergency electricians are available 24/7, including weekends and holidays. For non-emergency scheduled work, we offer Saturday appointments and can often accommodate flexible weekday times to fit your schedule.

  • Common signs: breakers trip when you run multiple appliances, your panel is a Federal Pacific or Zinsco brand, the panel feels warm or buzzes, your home still uses a fuse box, or it's rated below 200 amps. If your home was built before 1990, it's worth having the panel assessed. Read more about panel upgrades.

  • Aluminum branch-circuit wiring, common in Clearwater homes built between 1965 and 1975, has a higher fire risk than copper because the connections oxidize and loosen over time. It doesn't mean your house will catch fire tomorrow, but it does need professional evaluation. Options include a full copper rewire or COPALUM connector remediation at every junction point.

  • Yes. We install Level 2 (240V) chargers for every major brand — Tesla, ChargePoint, JuiceBox, and others. The installation includes a dedicated 50-amp circuit from your panel. If your panel lacks the capacity, we'll discuss an upgrade before anything gets installed. See our EV charger installation page for details.

  • Yes. We handle commercial electrical work including wiring, LED retrofits, code compliance inspections, tenant improvement electrical, parking lot lighting, and data cabling. Off-hours scheduling is available to minimize disruption to your business.

  • A breaker trips because the circuit is drawing more current than it's rated for (overload), there's a short circuit somewhere on the line, or the breaker itself is faulty. If it trips once and resets normally, you likely overloaded the circuit. If it trips repeatedly or won't reset, there's a fault that needs professional diagnosis. Don't keep resetting a tripping breaker — call us. See circuit breaker repair.

  • In Florida, absolutely. The Tampa Bay area sees more lightning strikes per square mile than almost anywhere in the country. A whole-home surge protector mounts at your panel and shields every circuit from lightning-induced surges and utility spikes. It's one of the least expensive things you can do to protect the most expensive things in your home.

  • We cover all of Pinellas County from our Clearwater location: Clearwater, Clearwater Beach, Largo, Dunedin, Safety Harbor, Oldsmar, Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs, Pinellas Park, Seminole, Belleair, Indian Rocks Beach, Indian Shores, Madeira Beach, Treasure Island, and surrounding communities. Check our service areas page for your specific neighborhood.

  • We provide upfront pricing over the phone for straightforward jobs. For anything that requires an on-site look — and most electrical work does — we charge a diagnostic fee that covers the trip and the inspection. If you approve the repair, the diagnostic fee rolls into the total cost of the job.
